On the ancestral lands of the Ute, Cheyenne, and Arapaho

ARTIST NOTES: Another peak in the Collegiates section of the Sawatch Range, which includes eight of the twenty highest peaks in Colorado. Calling it “Sawatch” was an attempt to honor the Ute tribal name for the range: “saguache,” for “blue earth spring.” As usual, something was lost in the translation. The namer, Herbert Toll, attended Columbia and Denver University, but he failed to give the local school the love for some reason.
